About Amy Wolk

AMY WOLK is a 4-time MAC award winning singer and performer. She most recently won as host of the gameshow I Only Have Lies For You, now in its third season, a show she also produces. She also won 2 MAC Awards for her cabaret performances, including the 2011 MAC for Musical Comedy, and the 2004 MAC Award for Best Female New York Debut for her show Different For Girls. She is also a MAC winning songwriter, for the song “The Brit Song,” co- written with William TN Hall. She won the 2014 Bistro Award for Musical Comedy. Amy was also named one of the best in cabaret by ShowBusiness Weekly. A graduate of NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts/CAP21, Amy has appeared in shows at The Duplex, Don’t Tell Mama’s, The Metropolitan Room, the Laurie Beechamn Theatre, and Town Hall in New York, as well as at Davenport’s in Chicago. She has also appeared in many regional productions including Evil Dead (Cheryl) Schoolhouse Rock Live (Dori), Into the Woods (Rapunzel), and The Taffetas (Peggy). A certified New York City school teacher, Amy has a Masters degree in Education from Fordham University. She works as a freelance teacher with On Location Education as an on set tutor on films and Broadway shows. This job has given her the opportunity to meet great people, teach amazing kids, and has allowed her to eat for free at opening night parties and from craft service tables. Amy has also worked extensively on Broadway as an assistant merchandise manager for over 40 Broadway shows, including Annie Get Your Gun, Les Miserables, Gypsy, Equus, Anything Goes, and The Phantom of the Opera.

In the Episode

Amy, much like many performers has had a winding path to her creative endeavors. She has held and holds many different jobs and interests all at the same time!
Her jobs in merchandise and others like it have lead her to meeting many people and some very important ones that make the entertainment industry work such as the front of house staff. She has gained a lot of great perspective on the industry through this work and her connections.
She also found another passion in education in which she has received a Masters and this lead her to her work at On Location Education. She started tutoring child actors in this role and has learned a lot from it.
Teaching and the adaptability that gives Amy her unique experiences go hand in hand with understanding the importance of learning and building up work in the entertainment industry.
She is a great tutor and has some powerful insight into what is important for young performers to keep in mind and how important education and being careful with social media can be for a career in entertainment.
